National Road Safety Awareness Campaign
The
NSS Unit, in association with the Nehru Yuva Kendra and the Traffic Police
Department of North Goa, organized a National Road Safety Awareness Campaign on
18th January 2025, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the seminar hall.
The
event was graced by Mr. Kalidas Ghatwal, Deputy Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra,Mr.
Vishnu Gawas, Assistant Sub Inspector; Mr. Pundalik Sawant, Head Constable of
Bicholim; Prof. Dr. Rajendra Kumbhajuvekar, Principal; and NSS Programme
Officers Mrs. Sherin Sheikh and Mrs. Ajita Morajker.
The
session commenced with distributing T-shirts to the 24 volunteers registered
under the My Bharat App. Prof. Dr. Rajendra Kumbhajuvekar, the Principal,
welcomed the gathering.
Mr.
Vishnu Gawas, Assistant Sub Inspector, shared several live experiences from his
career in the Traffic Police Department to highlight the importance of road
safety. He narrated instances where he had witnessed accidents due to reckless
driving, over-speeding, and the lack of adherence to traffic rules. Drawing
from his experiences, he emphasized the critical need for caution, discipline,
and respect for road regulations to prevent accidents and save lives.
At
the same time, Mr. Kalidas Ghatwal, Deputy Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra, spoke
about his personal encounters with road safety issues, sharing his experiences
and the lessons he had learned over the years. He spoke about how simple acts
like wearing seat belts, following speed limits, and being vigilant can
significantly reduce the chances of accidents. He also discussed the impact of
road safety awareness programs and how young people, especially volunteers, can
play a vital role in spreading these important messages in their communities

session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mrs. Sherin Sheikh, NSS Programme
Officer.
